Join your fellow paddlers for the OOPS Kayak Club General Meeting, Wednesday, March 27, 6:00 PM when we host Out of Sight, Out of Mind.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind, is a team of three Portland area kayakers, Shay Bickley, Chris Bensch and Jason Self, with a mission to raise awareness of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans and waterways and inspire others to make simple changes in their own lives to make the world a better place.
They are giving a presentation about their latest project, the Search for the Perfect Day, shot on location in the Redwoods, Florida Everglades & Keys, and Kauai, Hawaii, as well as last spring’s Trashpedition, where they paddled sea kayaks 100 miles from Portland to the Ocean towing a canoe to collect all the trash found along the way.
Friends, Fellow paddlers and turkey afficianados. It is with great pleasure that I’d like to remind you of our upcoming OOPS meeting Wednesday November 28 […]
Though we often forget it, or perhaps are not even aware of it, all kayaks we paddle are descended from boats used as platforms for hunting. Rather it was stalking seals, polar bear or even walruses, a kayak’s purpose was to bring in the nutrients and resources to sustain life of hunting people.
In the summer of 2011, Jonathan Walpole, Kirti Walpole and Jenny Johnson paddled a thousand miles down the west coast of Canada. Starting from Prince Rupert, British Columbia, they followed an exposed outer coast route down to Vancouver Island. From there they switched to the more protected, but still remote and spectacular, inside passage route.
